You can update SugarCRM with the built-in upgrade wizard in a few steps:
- The first thing that you should always do before you start the upgrade is to back up the files of your SugarCRM instance and also the database used by the application.
- Next, you have to download the upgrade package corresponding to the version of your SugarCRM (e.g. from 6.3.x to 6.4.0). You can download upgrade packages from the SugarCRM site.
- After that you have to access the upgrade wizard. To do this, log in to the application as an administrator, click on the Admin link in the upper right corner to go to the admin panel. Then scroll down the page to the System section and click on the button Upgrade Wizard.
- When you access the upgrade wizard just follow the steps. Basically, first click on the Next button and a system check will be performed. On the next step locate the upgrade package and upload it to your account using respectively the Browse and Upload Package buttons. The next step is a preflight check, and after that the actual upgrade process will be carried out.
- After the upgrade process is compete go back to the homepage of the admin panel, click on the button Repair that's in the System section, and on the page that opens click on the buttons Quick Repair and Rebuild and then on Rebuild Relationships.
- You also have to set the permissions of the cache folder recursively. It's in the root SugarCRM directory on your SugarCRM hosting account. Set the permissions of the cache folder and all its subfolders to 755.
- Finally, log out of your account in the SugarCRM application, and then log in and use your new SugarCRM version.
