How to add and manage catalog price rules in PrestaShop 1.5-1.6
You can use catalog price rules to add discounts to products in your catalog. From the options of each catalog rule you can add conditions that have to be met in order for the discount to be applied. It's applied to those products that meet these conditions. The group of products to which the catalog price rule should be applied can be restricted in terms of the category, manufacturer, supplier, attributes and/or features with which the products are associated. Catalog price rules also have options with which you can restrict the customers that will benefit from the discounts. You can base those restrictions on the customer group to which the customer belongs, the country of the customer's delivery address and the currency that's used.
Another way to create discounts is with the help of shopping cart price rules, also known as vouchers. For more information on that check out the tutorial on how to manage shopping cart price rules in PrestaShop 1.5-1.6, or the shorter article version.
In this article we'll briefly go over catalog price rules. For screenshots and more details check out the tutorial on how to manage catalog price rules in PrestaShop 1.5-1.6.
Create New Catalog Price Rules
To add a catalog price rule, go to Price Rules menu>Catalog Price Rules sub-menu in the admin panel and on the page that opens click on the button Add new catalog price rule (in PrestaShop 1.5 it's labeled Add new). On the page that opens you'll see displayed the general options of the rule. To display the options for adding conditions to the rule, click on the button Add a new condition group; it's under the general options.
General Options
At the top of the form for adding/editing catalog price rules you'll see the general options for the rule. In the Name field type a name for the rule. By default, the rule will be applied regardless of the currency used by the customer, the group to which the customer belongs and the country of the customer's delivery address. If you want to restrict the rule to a specific currency, customer group and/or country, you can use the drop-down menus Currency, Country and Group.
By default, the rule is applied when one (or more) units of a product is ordered. If you want to increase that minimum quantity, you can do this with the option From quantity. If fewer units than the set minimum are ordered, the rule will not be applied.
If you want the base prices of the products to which the catalog price rule is applied to be replaced with a new price, you can set this price from the option Price (tax excl.). Unmark the checkbox Leave base price and type the price in the field. This will be the price for all products to which the rule is applied. Otherwise, if you want the discount to be subtracted from the base price of each product, don't configure this option.
Using the fields From and To you can optionally set a time period during which the rule will be active. If you leave them blank it will be active until you delete it.
From the drop-down menu Reduction type you can select whether the discount should be a fixed amount or a percentage of the price of the product. From the option Reduction you can configure the amount/percentage of the discount.
Conditions
The conditions of a catalog price rule determine for which products it will be valid. If you don't add any conditions, it will be applied to all products. To display the options for the conditions, on the form for adding/editing catalog price rules click on the button Add a new condition group. This will display a table and some drop-down menus. There are drop-down menus from which you can select categories, manufacturers, suppliers, product attributes and features. When you select a value from any of the drop-down menus and you click on the Add condition button next to it, it will be listed in the table above as a condition. You can add as many conditions as you want. The conditions in one table form a group. The rule will be applied to the products that meet all the conditions in a group.
You can add more than one condition group to a catalog price rule. Just click on the Add a new condition group button again and add conditions to the new group. The rule will be valid for those products that meet all the conditions from any of the condition groups.
After you're done with the options don't forget to click on the Save button.
Manage Existing Catalog Price Rules
When you go to Price Rules menu>Catalog Price Rules sub-menu in the admin panel you'll see the current catalog price rules listed in a table. You can edit and delete them using the buttons in the table. To edit a rule simply click on its Edit button in the table (in PrestaShop 1.5 it's a pencil icon). The options on the form that opens are the same as when adding a rule.
To delete a catalog price rule, in the table with the rules click on the arrow next to the Edit button and from the drop-down menu select Delete. In PrestaShop 1.5 the button is a trash can icon.
With the drop-down menu Bulk actions that's under the table you can delete more than one rule at the same time. Before that in the first column of the table you have to mark the checkbox of each rule you want to delete.
